Orbiter 8 "Midnight Gemini" this was the culmination of many conversations in which we were trying to find as many tonal options to squeeze into a minimalist package. The "middle" pickup has a push/pull phase switch, giving the choice of having either two humbuckers or out of phase madness in position 2 and 4.

Materials

Almost all of the wood on this build is reclaimed - the Douglas Fir body was from the Elliot Lake mine, the Hard Maple neck was from an old barn, the Black Walnut fingerboard was also part of a barn truss.

Semi-hollow chambered body with Tamarack drop top, giving this a slightly warmer and resonant acoustic voice, which is a stark contrast to the single coils bite - somewhere, they meet in the middle.

Wrap around bridge with Goldo tremolo- sustain meets stability.

Controls

It’s something we have been working with builders on; Accessible Complexity. You get all the standard controls just like a strat, but with one hidden control, suddenly blam! whole host of additional tonal complexity.

When you play it, it’s simple. When the volume knob is depressed, everything in position 2 and 4 is in series (humbucking), when pulled they are out of phase. 1 is neck, 3 is middle (with the option of switching polarity when using the push pull knob) and 5 is bridge.

  1. neck
  2. neck + middle (volume knob depressed is humbucking, pulled up is out of phase)
  3. middle (volume push/pull reverses phase)
  4. middle + bridge (volume knob depressed is humbucking, pulled up is out of phase)
  5. bridge
